🌍 About iGeo

The International Geography Olympiad is the world's premier academic competition for secondary school students. It is held under the auspices of the International Geographical Union (IGU) and organized by the IGU Olympiad Commission.

🏛️ Venue

iGeo 2026 will be hosted at the Dedeman Istanbul Hotel in Gayrettepe, Beşiktaş — serving as the official accommodation, examination, and ceremony venue for the entire event week.

Competition Components

📝 Written Response Test (WRT)

40% weighting • Analytical questions covering physical, human, and regional geography.

🗺️ Multimedia Test (MMT)

20% weighting • Map interpretation, graphs, photos, and data analysis.

🔬 Fieldwork Exercise (FWE)

40% weighting • Real-world data collection and analysis at Istanbul sites.

Who is eligible?

Participants must be secondary school students (typically ages 16-19). Each country may send a team of up to 4 students plus 2 team leaders.

How do we register?

Registration is processed through the Olympus system. National coordinators should check the official iGeo website for portal access.

Where will it take place?

iGeo 2026 will be held at the Dedeman Istanbul Hotel in Gayrettepe, Beşiktaş, Istanbul, which will serve as both the accommodation and examination center for the entire event week.
